Indianapolis, Indiana – The new Broad Ripple Family Center will officially open on Thursday, and Indy Parks and nearby residents of the neighborhood will cut a ribbon to celebrate.
Thursday at 11 a.m., Mayor Joe Hogsett and other municipal officials will cut a ribbon.
The center, according to park manager Kathy Fitzgerald, is a benefit to the neighborhood, and expanding the park just fills in empty space.
Since 2011, park visitors have voiced their worry about the commercialization of the public park.
Prior to construction starting, Indy Parks occupied the land for 13 years.
It is an effective technique to show how health and community are related.
“In 2003, we moved into the old library here. I was in the program at the time and we went to town! We got so many instructors,” she said. “Our rooms were filled with classes. We almost didn’t have enough room for people to rent. People wanted to use it, but we just didn’t have the space or someone wanted a meeting in a room, and next to it was a Zumba class.”
An indoor track, gym, multipurpose rooms that can be hired out or utilized for group lessons, and a play area for children will all be features of the new family center.
On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be an open house where you can view the new amenities.
On Monday, the Broad Ripple Park Family Center will begin operations.
