Indianapolis, Indiana – Beginning on Monday, the police will begin conducting targeted school zone traffic enforcement in the areas located on the east side. Their objective is to get motorists’ attention and warn them to reduce their speed when driving through school zones.
During arrival and dismissal times, there has apparently been an increase in the amount of speeding that has occurred in school zones across the east side. After seeing this take place on a number of occasions, City-County Councilor David Ray contacted the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to report it.
“Too often, drivers fail to slow down in school zones, creating an unsafe environment for everyone,” Ray said. “I hear from constituents on a regular basis that this is a key public safety issue, and I’m grateful that IMPD’s East District is willing to be a key partner in keeping our streets safe. This is also a good reminder for drivers who may not have kids in school to be mindful when they are commuting.”
The IMPD has stated that they will pick the sites of the schools where the enforcement would take place based on a random selection. It is anticipated that the enforcement will go on for a total of 14 days.
