Indianapolis, Indiana – In an effort to recuperate from the recent winter storm, Southwest Airlines canceled more than 40 flights at Indianapolis International Airport on Tuesday. Additional flights were also delayed on Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the flight tracking website Flight Aware, 45 flights out of Indianapolis had been canceled as of 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, and nearly all of them were run by Southwest.
Southwest on Tuesday either postponed or canceled more than 80% of its Indianapolis schedule at the Indianapolis International Airport, and Spirit Airlines postponed four flights.
Southwest has canceled 41 more flights to and from Indianapolis for Wednesday.
Southwest has canceled 31 additional flights to and from Indianapolis for Thursday.

Democrat from Indianapolis and member of the House Transportation Committee, U.S. Rep. André Carson, referred to the cancellation rate as “unreasonable and intolerable.
“U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Tuesday talked about the Southwest situation. “Their system really has completely melted down.”
“I made clear that our department will be holding them accountable for their responsibilities to customers, both to get them through this situation and to make sure that this can’t happen again,” Buttigieg added.
More than 3,100 flights had been canceled and more than 6,400 had been delayed as of 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday throughout the United States. The majority of the chaos was carried by Southwest Airlines on Tuesday, which had to cancel more than 60% of its domestic flights. Many of the delays are carryovers from Monday when tens of thousands of travelers were left waiting in airport lines. The airline had to cancel more than 80% of its flights as a result.
