Marion Township, Indiana – A house fire occurred at 175 Carpenter Drive on Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters from Marion Township, Mitchell, and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Departments battled with the fire flames.
Firefighters were alerted to the fire just after 12 p.m. The caller reported smoke in a residence near the washer and dryer area of the home.
The residence was full of smoke and smoke was corning from the backside of the home, according to Marion Township VFD Chief Paul Gillespie.
“Firefighters laid out one attack line to the backside of the home for fire suppression found smoke and fire showing from the electrical box on the backside of the residence,” said Chief Gillespie. “Another attack line was laid into the front door to the bedroom where the fire was confined to the closet, crews were able to extinguish the fire inside with a water fire extinguisher. ”
Once electricity was disconnected by Duke energy, crews were able to pull ceilings and insulation to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
According to Chief Gillespie, the cause of the fire remains under investigation however, the fire appeared to have started in the electrical box and spread into the wall of the residence.
Crews remained on scene until 1:36 p.m.
