Bedford, Indiana – The Lawrence County Commissioners have changed the Lawrence County travel status to orange, due to the snowfall and predicted lowering of temperatures.
Also under an orange travel advisory is Daviess, Dubois, Greene, and Martin counties.
An orange advisory means conditions are threatening to the safety of the public.
During a “watch” local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations.
“Under an orange travel advisory motorists should only be on the roadways if they absolutely have to,” said Lawrence County Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer.
Some examples would be for work, medicine, and fuel: Monroe, Brown, Bartholomew, Jackson, and Orange counties are currently under a red travel advisory.
Red is the highest level of the local travel advisory, which means that travel may be restricted to emergency management workers only. During a “warning” local travel advisory, individuals are directed to:
A) refrain from all travel;
(B) comply with necessary emergency measures;
(C) cooperate with public officials and disaster services forces in executing emergency operations plans;
(D) obey and comply with the lawful directions of properly identified officers
