The world seems to be in total chaos following the most recent information about the new Covid-19 variant called Omicron prompting numerous countries to close their borders for travelers and enforce additional, more strict measure for their own residents.
While everyone is waiting for additional information regarding the Omicron variant, numerous studies show that booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccines by far improve the immunity which helps in battling the new variant.
That said, FDA on Thursday approved the booster dose for young folks aged 16 and 17 in an effort to improve the vaccination rate as the country is preparing to face the new variant in the winter months.
In the U.S., the Pfizer vaccine is the only option for children and teenagers.
Once the FDA approved the booster those for those aged 16 and 17, CDC rapidly endorsed a booster for those ages.
“Today, CDC is strengthening its booster recommendations and encouraging everyone 16 and older to receive a booster shot,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said in a press release. “Although we don’t have all the answers on the Omicron variant, initial data suggests that COVID-19 boosters help broaden and strengthen the protection against Omicron and other variants.”
The CDC recommends that the booster be received six months after their second COVID vaccine shot.
As of now, it remains unclear if younger folks will be allowed to get booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccines.
