The number of divorces has been on the rise in the past decade in United States and majority of the partners manage to undergo the divorce process in a calm manner and even figuring out how to look over their children despite being separated.
However, this was not the case in Lewis family’s story when the wife allegedly killed her husband by running over him with ATV following a dispute after the husband told his wife he will file a divorce.
The incident happened in the end of July when the Oklahoma couple went on a camping weekend together with their children.
According to the police report, the dispute over food and drink allegedly escalated when the husband, obviously frustrated of the bizarre dispute, told her wife he will file divorce as soon as they return home.
The alcohol fueled confrontation resulted with a threat when the woman said that she was going to run over and kill the man, something which she actually did. She took the family-owned ATV and run over her husband leaving him dead at the scene.
The woman then tried to run over her step-children, but they luckily escaped the site, hid in the nearby woods and called the authorities.
When deputies arrived at the scene together with the EMS crews, they pronounced the victim dead and the drunken woman was arrested.
Local police authorities said this is their first case of its type when somebody runs over other person on purpose and they think that the alcohol was a factor in the incident.
Both of the children witnessed the whole incident and were devastated of what had happened earlier. They explained the whole situation to authorities claiming the confrontation was nothing but a basic dispute every family or couple experience very often not assuming it could end fatally for their father.
Both in tears, the boy and the girl said their father was an off-road enthusiast who loved mega-trucks.
“He was a great man and would help anyone in need,” the son told KFOR in a statement.
“I have 1,000 brothers because he was a father figure to everyone.”
