The law that was initially supposed to take place in July 2020, was postponed for a year later and now becomes a reality.
According to the law, Hoosiers caught using cellphones while driving a vehicle will face increased penalties for breaking the state law.
The law was put in place to combat drivers using their cellphones while driving because it distracts them which increases the chances to result with a traffic incident. The new will allow officers to issue tickets up to $500 against violators.
In the first year more than 15,000 tickets were issued against violators.
The Bureau of Motor Vehicles said that as of now, such a violations will result with four points against a driver license.
The current Indiana law says that any driver who will reach 20 points in a two-year period will have his license suspended.
Drivers also face additional points for speeding in school or construction zones.
