Indianapolis, Indiana – Gov. Eric Holcomb extended the state’s public health emergency until at least the end of July. The order, that was first issued in March 2020, was renewed on Wednesday for 16th time.
Starting Thursday July 1st, most of the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted, but the Governor and the state’s health officials are worried that the state is lagging in the vaccination rate. Compared to some other states, Indiana is far behind in the vaccination process, officials say.
According to Holcomb, the newly infected Hoosiers by the Delta variant are people who still haven’t received the vaccine. Indiana is the 38th state in the country in vaccination rates, with only 48% of the population vaccinated.
Wednesday was the last day for the indoor mask requirement for students and K-12 school workers.
