Evansville, Ind. — A 17-year-old male was arrested late Thursday night after being found under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, with a firearm and drugs in his possession, according to the Evansville Police Department.
Officers were called to the area of Cumberland Avenue and Emerson Street around 11:30 p.m. Thursday to investigate a person who appeared to be in distress. Upon arriving at the scene, police located the individual, later identified as 17-year-old Nekevion Brodie, who was exhibiting signs of intoxication. Officers reported that Brodie smelled strongly of both marijuana and alcohol.
During a subsequent search, authorities discovered a gun, ammunition, and marijuana on Brodie. Further investigation revealed that Brodie is a known firearms offender and is currently on parole. As a result of his previous firearm-related conviction, Brodie’s charges were elevated to a felony.
Brodie was arrested and faces multiple charges, including child in possession of a firearm, public intoxication, and possession of marijuana. His prior conviction for firearm possession led to the enhancement of his charges, which could have significant legal consequences.
The arrest underscores the ongoing issues surrounding gun access and substance abuse among teenagers, as well as the legal complications that can arise from prior convictions. Local law enforcement continues to monitor and address concerns regarding youth involvement with firearms and drugs in the community.
