HUNTINGBURG, Ind. — The Huntingburg Regional Airport officially kicked off the construction of its new state-of-the-art terminal during a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, March 14th, 2025. The event, which ran from 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time, marks the beginning of a transformative project aimed at boosting economic growth and enhancing air travel experiences for the southwest region of Indiana.
The new terminal, named in honor of Frosty Jones, a respected figure in aviation and the founder of the Huntingburg Airport, is set to become a key infrastructure hub for the region. Jones’ legacy as a pioneer in the local aviation community is honored through this significant development, which will not only provide modern amenities but also serve as a gateway for future regional advancement.
Designed with sustainability at its core, the Frosty Jones Terminal will feature cutting-edge technologies such as a geothermal HVAC system, ensuring energy efficiency and environmental responsibility. The project emphasizes long-term benefits, positioning the terminal as a vital component in the future growth of both the local economy and the broader transportation sector.
In addition to its environmental focus, the new terminal will serve as a center for education and workforce development. The Huntingburg Regional Airport has partnered with the Patoka Valley Career Technical Education Center to offer innovative technical training programs within the facility. These programs will help bridge the gap between education and industry, providing students from local high schools and rural communities with valuable skills that support both the aviation and transportation sectors.
