MT. VERNON, Ind. — A 36-year-old woman from Illinois was arrested early Monday morning after a traffic stop led to the discovery of dangerous drugs, including methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Around 12:30 a.m., an officer with the Mt. Vernon Police Department pulled over a vehicle for failing to use a turn signal in the area of 9th Street and Main Street. The driver, identified as Kelli Hale of Illinois, appeared to be acting suspiciously by reaching around inside her vehicle despite being asked not to by officers.
After Hale exited the vehicle, officers noticed a bulge in her clothing, which they later determined to be a pipe with burnt residue. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed three bags containing methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as pills and a box that had previously contained a digital scale.
Hale was arrested on multiple charges, including dealing methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine. She was transported to the Posey County Jail, where she was booked and held on the charges.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to remove dangerous drugs from the streets of Mt. Vernon and ensure the safety of the community.
