EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Two individuals were taken into custody Wednesday night after a shooting incident in the 1800 block of Rhode Island Drive, leaving one person injured.
According to the Evansville Police Department, officers responded to multiple reports of gunshots in the area at approximately 8 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Jonah Greenlee with a gunshot wound to the leg. Authorities immediately began interviewing witnesses and victims at the scene.
Investigators learned that the victims had been preparing to move when a black SUV pulled up in front of their home. The man inside the vehicle began yelling at them, accusing their moving truck of blocking the road. Witnesses reported hearing the suspect yell, “I got something for you,” before walking toward the house with another man and opening fire.
In response, one of the victims reportedly drew their firearm and returned fire. A description of the suspects led authorities to identify them as Jonah Greenlee and Christopher Greenlee.
The investigation continued when police located the black SUV nearby. A search warrant was executed, leading to the discovery of a firearm, a green leafy substance, and 680 grams of a yellow powdery substance that later tested positive for synthetic cannabinoids.
During questioning, Jonah Greenlee told police he had been frustrated by the vehicles blocking the road as he was driving home. He claimed that after arriving at his residence, he returned to confront the victims but alleged they shot at him first.
However, police confirmed that both suspects are convicted felons and not legally permitted to possess firearms. Jonah Greenlee also admitted that the illegal substances found in the vehicle were his, used for manufacturing and selling narcotics.
Both men were arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail. The Greenlees face charges related to the shooting, possession of a firearm by a felon, and drug-related offenses.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns over gun violence and illegal narcotics in the region. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
