EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A 40-year-old Evansville man was arrested Wednesday evening after being accused of pulling a woman from her vehicle and robbing her.
According to the Evansville Police Department (EPD), officers responded to a call at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Macarthur Circle, where the victim, a landlord collecting rent, reported that she was attacked while in her car. The victim told police that a man, later identified as Edward Layne Klueg II, approached her vehicle while wearing a mask. Klueg allegedly reached into the car, grabbed the victim, and forcefully threw her to the ground before taking personal items from the vehicle.
A nearby tenant witnessed the assault and quickly intervened. The witness chased Klueg away, stating they saw him jump over a fence and enter a truck parked nearby. The witness was able to capture photographs of the truck, which ultimately led police to track the vehicle to a residence in the area.
Klueg was brought in for questioning at the EPD headquarters but denied any involvement in the crime. Following the interview, police obtained search warrants for both Klueg’s home and vehicle. During the search, authorities discovered the victim’s Excel logs and a mask matching the one used in the robbery.
As a result, Klueg was arrested and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail, facing charges of robbery and battery.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as the case progresses through the legal system.
