Evansville, Ind. — An arrest has been made in connection with a shooting investigation that unfolded on Friday morning in the 100 block of S. Green River Road. The Evansville Police Department (EPD) responded to a “shots fired” call and quickly arrived at the scene, where they located a female victim who sustained minor injuries. Fortunately, the woman had not been shot, but was struck by flying debris and shattered glass during the incident.
Sergeant Anna Gray of the EPD confirmed that the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Xairus V. Hardin, had a known connection to the victim. “This was not a random shooting,” Gray stated, explaining that Hardin was the victim’s ex-boyfriend.
According to police reports, Hardin confronted the victim at her residence, threatening to kill her before fleeing the scene on foot. Officers soon engaged in a foot pursuit, which led to Hardin’s detention. Following his arrest, investigators discovered a backpack in the backyard where the chase had occurred. Inside the bag, authorities found a white powdery substance that later tested positive for fentanyl, weighing approximately 240 grams.
Hardin is currently being held at the Vanderburgh County Jail and faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, intimidation with a deadly weapon, criminal confinement, and dealing a narcotic drug. Police are continuing to investigate the case, and further developments are expected.
The arrest serves as a reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the growing concern surrounding fentanyl distribution in the area. Authorities have commended the quick response by officers, which likely prevented the situation from escalating further.
