Evansville, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced the installation of speed feedback signs throughout the southwest district, which includes all local counties on the Indiana side of the Tri-State area.
INDOT Public Relations Director Gary Brian confirmed that approximately 85 signs will be placed in 40 towns across the region. These signs will be positioned on state roads as drivers approach various communities. The primary goal is to encourage motorists to reduce their speed when necessary.
“These signs will display drivers’ current speeds alongside the posted speed limit, providing a direct comparison,” said Brian. “If a driver exceeds the speed limit, they will be alerted with a message to ‘slow down.’”
The speed feedback signs are set to be fully installed by mid-spring. While they are designed to raise awareness of speeding, officials emphasized that the signs will not be used for issuing tickets, but rather serve as a reminder to promote safer driving practices.
By informing drivers of their speed, INDOT hopes the initiative will lead to safer roads across the area, particularly near towns where traffic can be a concern.
