EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A late-night call to police in Evansville led to a dramatic chase and the arrest of a suspect involved in a violent confrontation at Kennedy Towers on Saturday.
Around 11 p.m., dispatchers received reports of shots fired at the high-rise apartment complex located on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Responding officers arrived at the scene to find no evidence of gunfire. Instead, they discovered that a man, later identified as 31-year-old Darrin Scott, had attacked a woman inside the building.
According to police, Scott threatened the victim with a knife, saying he would stab her in the eye. In addition to the woman, authorities said Scott also assaulted a man who witnessed the attack, choking him during the altercation.
As officers attempted to arrest Scott, he fled from the scene, running through the building and making his way to the fifth floor. A brief pursuit ensued, and police successfully apprehended Scott on the second floor. Scott was arrested and transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail, facing several charges, including battery, strangulation, interference with the reporting of a crime, intimidation with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct, and resisting law enforcement.
At the time of publication, a mugshot for Scott had not been released.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the condition of the victims, but the investigation remains ongoing.
Police are asking anyone with additional information regarding the incident to come forward.
The violent altercation has raised concerns within the local community about safety at Kennedy Towers, though no other incidents have been reported in the area at this time.
