EVANSVILLE, Ind. — City officials have unveiled plans for a new playground at Garvin Park, marking the first step in a larger revitalization effort funded by the $24 million Parks Bond passed late last year. The new playground will feature upgraded safety surfacing and is part of the Garvin Park Master Plan, a vision designed by Hafer & Associates.
The project is a significant part of the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance public spaces and provide residents with safe, enjoyable recreational areas. According to the City of Evansville, future phases of the plan will introduce additional amenities to the park, including new basketball courts, a restroom building, and possibly a shelter.
The playground’s design was developed by the Department of Parks & Recreation, with collaboration from Midstates. The city has shared digital renderings of the project, offering residents a preview of the upcoming changes.
Garvin Park has long been a cherished location for Evansville residents, and Mayor Stephanie Terry emphasized the importance of this development for the community. “Garvin Park has been a special part of our city for generations, and this project is just the beginning of bringing new life to this beloved space,” said Mayor Terry. “Everyone deserves safe, beautiful parks where families can play, gather, and make memories. Thanks to the Parks Bond, we’re finally able to make some of the improvements our community has been asking for and give our neighborhoods the parks they deserve.”
With this initial phase of improvements underway, Garvin Park is poised to become an even more vital community hub in the years to come, offering a modern and welcoming environment for families and visitors alike.
