EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Crews in Evansville worked tirelessly for over an hour in subfreezing temperatures to extinguish a house fire early Wednesday morning.
The fire was reported at approximately 4:22 a.m. on the 1400 block of Oakley Street. Upon arrival, heavy smoke could be seen billowing from the house, though it quickly began to dissipate. By 5 a.m., flames were still visible from the back portion of the home, as firefighters continued their efforts to contain the blaze.
Fire officials confirmed the fire was under control by 5:45 a.m., although crews remained on-site to address lingering hot spots. Authorities believe the home was vacant at the time of the fire, with no electricity or gas service connected to the property. Additionally, fire crews noted that the interior of the house contained significant debris, complicating their efforts.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but no injuries were reported. Firefighters spent over an hour working in extremely cold conditions to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and to prevent it from reigniting.
Local authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
