Indianapolis, Indiana – Beginning the following week, a significant construction project on College Avenue may cause traffic problems for motorists.
There are street closures on several of them.
In the coming months, it appears like construction will be a nightmare, according to Indianapolis resident Conner Thompson.
As part of the construction project, IndyGo reports that on or after Wednesday, June 14th, workers will make upgrades to bus pads and lay concrete at stations between 42nd and 52nd streets.
The task should be finished by the following month.
“It will undoubtedly be more difficult to get around. The traffic on other routes will increase as a major portion of College is closed off, but hopefully, they can finish it as quickly as possible,” Thompson added.
It’s a component of the Red Line Enhancements Project at IndyGo.
According to the group, the objective is to safeguard the system’s infrastructure in order to keep it operational for years to come.
Some business owners, though, aren’t entirely pleased about it.
According to Jazz Kitchen owner David Allee, it is “selfishly kind of disappointing that maybe they didn’t build these pads to a specification that actually enabled them to last more than what five or six years, but you know, things happen.”
Meridian Street will be used as a detour route, according to IndyGo officials, which is concerning to the locals.
“No traffic on College for almost a month, but maybe they can finish it. The Red Line is used by many, as far as I’m aware,” Thompson remarked. I’m hoping they can finish it as quickly as feasible.
Allee asserts that the building industry has a significant impact on business.
“We’re fortunate in a way that we’re kind of destination, but if you’re a general restaurant or any shops, record stores down the street, things like that, they do rely on that foot traffic to be able to keep their doors open,” Allee said.
Since the last five or six years have been difficult for us, Allee remarked, “Any interruptions are huge for us.”
According to IndyGo, work on College Avenue will be finished before the summer is out.
