Moab, Utah – As the temperature in the region continues to increase, a 61-year-old Indiana lady was discovered dead this week at a campground inside a national park in Utah.
Grand County Dispatch received a complaint on Wednesday that a woman at Canyonlands National Park’s “Willow Flat Campground at the Island in the Sky district” was not responding, according to the US National Park Service.
In response, deputies from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, Grand County EMS, and National Park Service rangers arrived on the scene. The park service reported that when they arrived, workers discovered a female tourist who had been pronounced deceased at the site.
The deceased was a 61-year-old female from Indiana, according to the National Park Service, even though precise identification was not given. NPS reported that notices to the next of kin have been sent.
“San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and the National Park Service are conducting a cooperative investigation into the manner and cause of death,” NPS said in a release sent Thursday.
The National Parks Service did not provide an official cause of death, however, the area was extremely hot at the time the incident happened. In Moab, the week’s highs and lows varied from the high 80s to the mid-90s.
