Indianapolis, Indiana – A woman, a girl and a police officer were shot and suffered gunshot wounds in the Wednesday night shooting in Indianapolis northeast side, police confirm.
According to the report, deputies were dispatched to the 7500 block of Bayview Club Drive in regards to a domestic violence around 9 p.m.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they tried to get in contact with the people in the apartment, but no one responded. While they were checking the surroundings of the apartment, someone opened fire and hit one of the officers.
The officer was transferred to hospital for treatment. His condition is stable.
Additionally, three other people were transferred to hospital. One of them was the suspect who died shortly after arriving in the hospital.
According to police, one girl and one other woman were also taken for treatment. The girl was transferred to Methodist Hospital, while the woman to St. Vincent’s hospital. Both of them are in critical condition.
The IMPD didn’t released details about the whole incident. As of now, the case is still under investigation.
In a press conference late Wednesday night, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Assistant Chief Chris Bailey confirmed that at least three other children were in the same apartment when the shooting incident occurred, but were able to escape uninjured. They were taken in IMPD custody.
Bailey added this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.
