Vanderburgh County, Ind. – Crews responded to a water rescue early Tuesday morning in Vanderburgh County after a car became trapped in floodwaters. The incident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on Allens Lane near North 11th Avenue.
According to emergency officials, the driver reportedly ignored a road closure sign and drove into the flooded area. Floodwaters had risen significantly in the area, making the road impassable. As the driver’s vehicle became stranded in the rising water, local authorities and rescue crews quickly arrived on the scene to assist.
“Our teams were able to safely remove the driver from the vehicle without incident,” said one official at the scene. “We’re thankful no one was hurt, but this is a reminder of how dangerous it can be to disregard road closure signs, especially during inclement weather.”
Following the rescue, officials confirmed that the driver was cited for violating the road closure. They were reminded that driving around road closure signs is both illegal and hazardous.
The floodwaters in Vanderburgh County have continued to pose significant risks, and local authorities urge all drivers to exercise caution and adhere to safety warnings. It remains critical that motorists avoid flooded roadways, as even shallow waters can quickly become dangerous.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the area and are advising the public to stay updated on any additional road closures.
