VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — Vanderburgh County deputies arrested a man Tuesday night after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed onto railroad tracks while allegedly driving under the influence with two teenagers inside.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Dixie Flyer Road and Broadway Avenue. Deputies were directed to the scene by a CSX supervisor, who reported a car stuck on the tracks with significant front-end damage and flat tires.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the driver, identified as Randall Drury, who exhibited signs of intoxication, including the smell of alcohol and slurred speech. Two teenage passengers were also found in the vehicle.
An investigation revealed that Drury was speeding and failed to properly navigate a turn, causing the vehicle to veer onto the railroad tracks. The collision caused damage to the car and a CSX rail yard control switch.
Drury admitted to consuming alcohol prior to driving and subsequently registered a blood alcohol content of .160 after field sobriety tests. Witnesses at the scene reported that Drury and the juveniles attempted to conceal alcohol containers following the crash.
Authorities also determined that both teenagers were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Drury was taken into custody and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on several charges, including driving under the influence, resisting arrest, neglect, and providing alcohol to minors.
Sheriff Noah Robinson said his office is coordinating with CSX as they assess the extent of damage to their equipment and tracks. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the crash.
