EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The University of Evansville’s School of Education has achieved a significant milestone by earning National Recognition from the International Literacy Association (ILA). This prestigious distinction highlights the university’s commitment to excellence in preparing literacy professionals and positions UE as a leader in educator preparation.
With this recognition, the University of Evansville becomes the first institution in Indiana and the fifth in the nation to be honored by the ILA. The award is granted to outstanding licensure, certificate, and endorsement programs that focus on equipping educators with the skills necessary to teach literacy effectively.
The recognition follows a comprehensive self-study conducted by the faculty of the School of Education, which examined the quality and impact of their elementary and intermediate classroom programs. The study, submitted to the ILA, met the organization’s rigorous standards for excellence in literacy education, underscoring the dedication of the faculty and staff to maintaining high academic standards.
Dr. Andy Lampkins, Interim Dean of the School of Education and Health Sciences at UE, expressed his excitement about the recognition. “We are thrilled to receive this national recognition, which underscores the exceptional quality of our educator preparation programs,” Dr. Lampkins stated. “This honor reflects the hard work and dedication of our faculty, who continually strive to provide the best possible training for future educators.”
The distinction places the University of Evansville among an exclusive group of only 15 universities nationwide to receive such an honor. This recognition highlights the university’s ongoing commitment to providing students with the highest level of training in literacy instruction, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the challenges of the modern classroom.
As one of the top institutions in the country for literacy education, the University of Evansville continues to demonstrate its role as a leader in educator preparation, offering programs that meet the evolving needs of today’s schools and learners.
