EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Two security guards from Chaser’s Bar & Grill in Evansville were arrested over the weekend after a violent altercation with a man that left him severely injured. The incident, which was captured in a now-viral Facebook video, has sparked a police investigation and led to felony battery charges against the guards.
The altercation took place just after midnight on Sunday. According to the Evansville Police Department (EPD), an off-duty officer, who was working security at the bar, had been called across the street to assist with a separate matter. When the officer returned to the bar, several employees pointed to a man outside the west door of the establishment. The man, identified as Shane Hendrix, was visibly bloody and in distress.
The officer then began to gather details about the situation. The bartender at Chaser’s Bar claimed that Hendrix had been served alcohol earlier in the evening, but there was a dispute over unpaid drinks. The bartender said that Hendrix had become confrontational and allegedly threatened her before lunging at her, prompting the argument to escalate.
A manager at the bar later told authorities that Hendrix still owed approximately $60 for drinks, which could have contributed to the tension. After speaking to both security guards involved in the incident — Sean Shell and Johnathan Turner — the officer found that the situation had escalated far beyond the initial dispute.
Shell and Turner were arrested and charged with felony battery following the confrontation. The disturbing video footage of the altercation, which was widely shared on social media, has drawn public attention to the actions of the security personnel and the extent of their use of force.
The case is still under investigation, and more details are expected as the police continue to gather evidence. The arrests have prompted a broader discussion about security practices in local bars and the responsibility of staff to manage confrontations without resorting to violence.
