Evansville, IN – Travel on Interstate 69 (I-69) in both Indiana and Kentucky is facing significant disruptions as high water continues to affect major stretches of the highway. According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), both north and southbound lanes of I-69 in Daviess County, Indiana, are currently closed due to flooding. The closure impacts the section from the US 50 (Washington exit) to the State Road 68 (Elnora exit), forcing motorists to seek alternate routes.
In response to the closure, officials have set up a detour. Drivers are being advised to take US 50 to US 231, then continue onto State Road 68 to bypass the affected area. As of now, there is no estimate on how long the closure will remain in effect, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
Meanwhile, high water has also prompted closures on I-69 in Hopkins County, Kentucky. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has reported that the right lane of I-69 northbound is shut down at the 90-mile marker, just west of Dawson Springs. Additionally, the ramp at Exit 117 has been closed due to flooding.
Officials are strongly urging all drivers in the region to stay off the roads if possible and to avoid driving through flooded areas. “It is critical that drivers exercise caution and heed road closures during this weather event,” said a spokesperson from the KYTC. “Driving through high water can be extremely dangerous, and we encourage everyone to stay home if they can.”
With weather conditions continuing to cause issues along major highways in the region, authorities are urging travelers to check for updates before embarking on any journeys. Drivers are reminded to stay informed and follow any detours or closures to ensure their safety.
