Evansville, IN — Drivers in Evansville are being advised of a significant traffic shift scheduled to take place on or around Thursday, December 19, as part of an ongoing reconstruction project on Highway 41. According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), southbound lanes of Highway 41 will merge into the northbound side of the roadway between Diamond Avenue and the Lloyd Expressway.
This temporary lane configuration is part of a larger effort to reconstruct the highway and is expected to be in place for several years, lasting through May 2025.
As part of the shift, southbound drivers will face restrictions on left turns at key intersections. Left turns from the southbound lanes will be prohibited at Morgan Avenue, Columbia Street, and Virginia Street. Drivers who need to turn left at these locations are encouraged to use the cloverleaf interchange as an alternative route.
INDOT officials stress the importance of motorists staying alert and following posted signs as they navigate through the altered traffic pattern. They also urge drivers to plan ahead for potential delays, especially during peak travel times, as the construction continues to affect traffic flow on this busy section of Highway 41.
With the holiday season approaching, travelers are advised to allow extra time for their commutes and consider using alternate routes when possible to avoid congestion. The lane shift will remain in effect until the completion of the reconstruction project, which is projected to conclude in the spring of 2025.
For more information, motorists can visit the INDOT website or follow local traffic reports for updates on the project’s progress and any additional changes to traffic patterns in the area.
