Greenwood, Indiana – The Indiana State Police Department is currently taking applications for the next group of officers to join its ranks as recruits.
In recent years, there has been a general decline in the number of applications received; consequently, the state police have increased their recruitment efforts.
“The Indiana State Police is a large agency with several different aspects within law enforcement that you can do,” Master Trooper Ben Cook said. “(For example) our bomb squad is well-trained, well-equipped and is just one of the many things that you can do within ISP.”
The Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield provides a starting salary of $1,807 per two-week pay period to recruits at the academy. After successful completion of the training at the academy, the beginning salary is $51,000.
A comprehensive health insurance package that covers dental, vision, and pharmacy services is made available to recruits. A lifetime pension is also available to state police officers after 25 years of service.
The application and the evaluation of one’s physical ability, known as the Physical Ability Test (PAT), are both included in this process. Both obligations must be satisfied by the 29th of April, 2023 at the latest.
The ability to make critical decisions under adverse or emergency conditions, being qualified to use department firearms and other weapons, and having a working knowledge of criminal and traffic law and criminal procedures are all required qualifications. Applicants must also possess a valid driver’s license from the state of Indiana.
