Indianapolis, Indiana – During the No Ticket, Let’s Repair It campaign, motorists in central Indiana who are stopped for a broken headlight or busted taillight can receive a Jiffy Lube gift card as a surprise rather than a penalty.
In order to increase pleasant contacts between law enforcement and the public, decrease minor traffic offenses, and enhance road safety, the program was launched in February 2021 with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The program enables officers to give $25 Jiffy Lube gift cards as opposed to citations for defective equipment or malfunctioning vehicle lights. This year’s campaign has twenty police departments from all throughout central Indiana participating.
Jiffy Lube of Central Indiana provided the officers with a $300,000 donation so they could help drivers with their problems. Officers plan to give out 12,000 gift cards.
Jiffy Lube Indiana’s president and CEO, Steve Sanner, declares that he enjoys “being able to create happy endings.”
“You’re driving in your car, you may know you have a light out but you haven’t had time to fix it. You see the lights go on behind you. You start to get a little stressed out. Now, an officer can come up with a solution instead of making the problem worse with a ticket or a warning. We can actually fix the problem.”
According to Sanner, one or two taillights, brake lights, or a typical headlight can be purchased with the $25 gift card.
“We just want to help people be safe on the road and we want to really try to get people to understand these officers are here to keep us all safe,” Sanner said. “If you’re driving a car that’s not functioning right, you’re not safe and the people around you aren’t safe.”
