Indianapolis, Indiana – Due to the erratic weather, a block party intended to spotlight and promote Black-owned businesses that was set to take place on Saturday has been canceled.
The Sigma Gamma Rho sorority’s Black Business Block Party was postponed because the storms posed a “safety issue,” according to the event’s chair and coordinator Mayrena King.
As only 3% of companies are held by Black people, according to King, the event will encourage entrepreneurship.
The group’s goal is to improve women’s and children’s quality of life. “This block party will be a great fundraiser for our mission,” stated Tammi Prince, co-chair of the Circle City Classic Committee.
“We will reschedule the event for some time later this month,” King said.
