Evansville, IN — Authorities have arrested a second suspect in connection with a September theft from an Evansville Police Department (EPD) officer’s personal vehicle. The incident, which involved the theft of two firearms, a bulletproof vest, and a taser, prompted a swift investigation by local law enforcement.
In the days following the theft, 20-year-old Ty’Draveon Rebstock was arrested in connection with the crime. However, new developments in the investigation have led to the identification and arrest of an additional suspect, 18-year-old Deanthoney Daniels.
Daniels was taken into custody on Tuesday after investigators located him as part of their ongoing efforts to solve the crime. During questioning, Daniels reportedly admitted to his involvement in the theft, claiming he and another individual had been “car hopping,” or checking cars for valuables, on the night of the incident. He further stated that he was unaware the stolen items belonged to a police officer until after they had already left the scene.
Daniels was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail and is now facing multiple theft charges. Authorities have not indicated whether additional arrests are expected in connection with the case, but they continue to review evidence and pursue leads.
The theft occurred in September, when the officer, who was off-duty at the time, discovered the items missing from his personal vehicle. The stolen firearms, taser, and vest raised concerns about the potential risk posed by such stolen law enforcement equipment being in the wrong hands.
Local authorities have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that they remain committed to bringing those responsible for the theft to justice. Meanwhile, both Rebstock and Daniels will face their charges in court in the coming weeks.
The Evansville Police Department has not commented further on whether the stolen items have been recovered, but investigators continue to work on the case to ensure accountability and to prevent future incidents of vehicle theft targeting law enforcement officers.
