EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A second arrest has been made in connection to the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Dalton Collins, which occurred on March 22 along Lodge Avenue. Evansville Police confirmed that 16-year-old Derrick Brifil has been charged with murder, robbery, and several other offenses related to the incident.
According to police reports, Brifil, along with another 16-year-old, Isam Clark, were involved in an attempted robbery that escalated into violence. Police stated that Collins and another individual had arranged a meeting on Lodge Avenue, near Van Bibber Avenue, when they were approached by the two suspects. The suspects allegedly attempted to rob the victims at gunpoint, and during the altercation, both victims were shot.
At least one of the victims managed to return fire before seeking medical assistance. Collins, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was rushed to the hospital but ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
Brifil, who remains in Vanderburgh County Jail, is being held on no bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday to face the charges. Police continue to investigate the events surrounding the shooting, while the community grapples with the loss of a young life.
