Richmond, Indiana – The $40 million Richmond plant will prepare ingredients for the pet food market, according to an announcement made by Anchor Ingredient Co. on Tuesday.
The processing plant will be situated in Midwest Industrial Park, the center of the pet food industry, according to a release. The building will increase the industrial park’s rail infrastructure and offer bulk storage, warehouse space, and on-site ingredient processing.
There are currently three pet food producers in Richmond: Hill’s, Blue Buffalo, and Heartland United.
In order to keep supplying top-quality ingredients to the expanding network of pet food producers in the area, the facility will also finish quality assurance testing.
“We are thrilled to break ground on our new transload and ingredient processing facility in Richmond,” said Al Yablonski, CEO and co-founder of Anchor Ingredients, in a statement. “This facility represents a significant investment in the pet food industry and demonstrates our dedication to being a true supply chain partner and delivering high-quality ingredients that meet the demands of our customers.”
Thirty jobs are anticipated to be created by the facility. In order to strengthen the area’s status as a center for the pet food industry and prepare for future expansion at this location, Anchor claims they seek to foster collaboration with local businesses and stakeholders.
As stated in the release, “Based on the company’s growth plans, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) committed investment in Anchor Ingredients of up to $310,000 in the form of incentive-based tax credits and up to $200,000 in Manufacturing Readiness Grants. These investments are performance-based, meaning the company is eligible to claim incentives once Hoosiers are hired.”
The facility is anticipated to be finished by June 1.
