Project Prom is back to help teens in need by donating dresses to them

Franklin, Indiana – Beginning on Saturday, March 25, the Johnson County Public Library will host their annual event known as Project Prom at the branch. During this event, all adolescents will have the opportunity to look through and take home donated formal wear.

Teens will have the option to grab dresses, suits, shoes, and accessories for free. “The library’s mission is to provide access to a wide range of resources, and Project Prom is a way we can help teens attend prom who otherwise might not have been able to attend due to the cost of purchasing formal wear,” said Kelly Staten, Johnson County Public Library programming manager.

According to a press release issued by Project Prom, the organization has distributed more than one thousand prom dresses to young women since 2013. The project contributed 247 dresses and 42 suits to the younger generation during the previous year.

“Because attending prom is more expensive than ever, some teens don’t attend and miss the experience. We hope to put the fun back into prom for teens by alleviating some of the prom expense with free formal wear,” Josephine Whitaker, Project Prom’s committee leader.

The gathering will take place in the structure that is situated directly behind the Franklin Branch of the Johnson County Public Library, which can be found at 401 State St. in Franklin. The event will start on Saturday, March 25, at 10 a.m. and continue through Sunday, March 26, at 1 p.m. and continue until 4 p.m. both days.

Teenagers who pay a visit to Project Prom have the opportunity to enter a drawing to win prizes provided by local businesses like Bud and Bloom for a corsage or boutonnière and JP Parker Flowers. Students from all over central Indiana are welcome to participate in the event.

At any Johnson County Public Library location throughout the year, the library will gratefully accept donations of new and gently used items in good condition.
