EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Emergency responders in Evansville have been busy this week as high water continues to cause disruptions, with authorities reporting multiple water rescues in the area. The most recent incident occurred just before 7:00 p.m. near Allens Lane, close to Skylane Airport, when a driver reportedly ignored barricades and became stuck in flooded waters.
According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, this marks the third call they’ve received today alone for drivers trapped in the same area. A truck had also become stuck in the same stretch of road just the day before. In both cases, drivers were fortunate to escape unharmed, though their vehicles sustained damage due to the rising waters.
While the drivers were able to get out of their vehicles safely, law enforcement is using these incidents as an opportunity to remind the public about the dangers of ignoring road closures. Officials emphasize that driving through flooded roads not only endangers the drivers themselves but also the lives of first responders who must risk their safety to carry out rescues.
Vanderburgh County deputies are urging residents to heed all warning signs and barricades in place to avoid further incidents. With continued rain in the forecast, authorities are expecting more challenges in the coming days and stress the importance of remaining cautious in flood-prone areas.
Drivers are advised to take alternate routes and avoid areas where flooding has been reported to ensure their safety and that of others on the road.
