Mt. Vernon, IN – On Tuesday night, the public was given its first look at potential designs for a new skate park in Mount Vernon. The unveiling took place at a meeting held at the Alexandrian Library, where local residents gathered to review two proposed layouts created by Hunger Skateparks, a company partnered with the city for the project.
The skate park, which is slated to be built at the northwest corner of Brittle Bank Park, has been a long-awaited project for the community. In August of last year, Mount Vernon city officials sent out a survey to gauge public interest and gather input on the idea of a new skate park. The survey results indicated significant support for such a project, prompting Mayor Loehr to take the next steps in planning.
During the meeting, Mayor Loehr emphasized that the design presented was only a starting point, and there would be additional rounds of public feedback before construction begins. The city is committed to ensuring that the park meets the needs of both skateboarders and the broader community.
“While we’re excited about the direction this project is heading, we want to make sure we get it right. This is just the beginning, and we will continue to listen to our residents,” said Mayor Loehr.
The proposed designs, created by Hunger Skateparks, showcase a mix of street elements and bowl features, aimed at attracting skateboarders of all skill levels. The skate park is expected to become a recreational hub for local youth and visitors alike, providing a safe and engaging space for extreme sports enthusiasts.
As the project progresses, city officials plan to hold additional meetings to incorporate further community input. While a timeline for construction has not been finalized, the skate park’s planned location at Brittle Bank Park is seen as a strategic choice, offering easy access for the public while integrating with existing park amenities.
With the support of the community and ongoing efforts to fine-tune the design, the Mt. Vernon skate park project is one step closer to becoming a reality.
