VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — Vanderburgh County deputies arrested a man Tuesday night after he crashed his vehicle on railroad tracks while allegedly driving under the influence with two teenagers in the car.
Authorities were called to the area of Dixie Flyer Road near Broadway Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m. after a vehicle was found stuck on the railroad tracks with significant front-end damage and flat tires.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a CSX supervisor who directed them to the damaged car. The driver, identified as Randall Drury, was found to have the smell of alcohol on his breath and displayed slurred speech. Two teenagers were also in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
According to investigators, Drury was speeding and failed to properly navigate a turn, causing him to lose control and drive onto the railroad tracks. The crash also resulted in damage to a CSX rail yard control switch.
Sheriff Noah Robinson said his office is working with CSX to assess the full extent of the damage to the rail equipment and tracks.
Following field sobriety tests, Drury registered a blood alcohol concentration of .160, twice the legal limit. Witnesses told deputies that Drury and the teenagers attempted to hide alcohol containers after the incident. The teenagers were also found to be under the influence of alcohol.
Drury was taken into custody and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, resisting arrest, neglect, and providing alcohol to a minor.
No injuries were reported in the crash.
