VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — Authorities in Vanderburgh County arrested a man following a brief pursuit on Tuesday, March 19. Zachary Lee Cox, 28, was taken into custody after allegedly fleeing from a deputy in a high-speed chase that lasted for several blocks.
According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), a deputy assigned to the Street Crimes Unit observed Cox speeding near Madison Avenue and Governor Street. The deputy also reported seeing Cox smoking marijuana while driving. Attempting to stop Cox, the deputy pursued him, but the suspect fled at high speeds.
The chase lasted approximately two to three blocks before the deputy lost sight of Cox, causing the pursuit to be called off. However, detectives quickly utilized the FLOCK camera network, a system designed to track vehicles in real time, to gather information about Cox’s vehicle. Within minutes, members of the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force located Cox and arrested him without further incident.
Following his arrest, Cox was evaluated by authorities, who reported that he showed no signs of impairment. He has been charged with resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license.
Cox is currently being held at the Vanderburgh County Jail. The incident highlights the growing use of advanced technology in law enforcement efforts to locate and apprehend suspects quickly, even after a pursuit has been terminated.
