Indianapolis, Indiana – On Saturday, the grandson of a previous winner of the Indianapolis 500 competed in a race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The race car driver Jagger Jones is the grandson of Parnelli Jones, who competed in the INDY NXT Series. Parnelli Jones was victorious in the Indianapolis 500 in 1963.
This past weekend, Jagger Jones participated in the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix and finished in 14th place on the IMS road track.
During the competition, his vehicle sported a one-of-a-kind livery that paid tribute to his grandfather’s racing career.
“Even being the grandson, it’s still super cool to have that,” said Jones. “I don’t take that for granted.”
According to Indy NXT, “the Jones family is the 7th to have three generations compete in IndyCar-sanctioned races at Indy.”
“I love coming here,” said Jones. “The car looks so great.”
In the INDY NXT Series, Jagger Jones is competing in his first season as a rookie.
Jones has stated that he intends to return to the IMS road course in August with the same paint scheme in order to compete in the race. His goal is to finish in the top three positions.
