Evansville, IN – Governor Andy Beshear has praised the generosity of Kentuckians after the state’s annual ‘Cram the Cruiser’ food drive collected a record-breaking 204,262 pounds of non-perishable food. The 2024 campaign, organized by the Kentucky State Police (KSP), marked a 42,000-pound increase over last year’s total.
The food drive, which runs statewide each year, aims to provide food for families in need during the holiday season. Donations collected through the effort are distributed to food banks, shelters, and churches across Kentucky, helping to ensure that those facing hardship have access to essential food items.
In a statement, Governor Beshear expressed his appreciation for the outpouring of support from communities across the state. “Team Kentucky knows how to come together to care for their neighbors, and the amount of food collected through this event is a testament to the love our people have for each other,” Beshear said. “Through your donations, so many Kentucky families will have a brighter holiday season, and for that, I am thankful.”
The Kentucky State Police coordinated the statewide effort, with all 16 KSP posts serving as collection points. For the second consecutive year, Post 16 led the state in donations, gathering an impressive 115,348 pounds of food.
Since its inception in 2010, the ‘Cram the Cruiser’ food drive has had a lasting impact on the state, contributing nearly 3 million pounds of food to Kentucky communities.
The donations are expected to support local shelters and food banks during the winter months, providing a critical resource for families who may otherwise struggle to put food on the table.
Beshear’s office commended not only the Kentucky State Police for their coordination of the event but also the many Kentuckians who donated to ensure its success. The 2024 campaign’s record total serves as a powerful reminder of the strength and solidarity of communities throughout the state.
