VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. — A gas leak in Vanderburgh County caused a temporary disruption Tuesday morning, prompting authorities to issue a shelter-in-place order for nearby residents.
Just before 9 a.m., crews were dispatched to the area of Bridlewood Drive and Boonville-New Harmony Road after a 6-inch gas line was struck during ongoing road work. The leak affected the surrounding area, leading officials to advise residents of the Stonecrest and Bridlewood subdivisions to shelter in place as a safety precaution.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) confirmed that no evacuations were necessary, and the situation was under control. Emergency personnel, including the Vanderburgh County Fire Department, were on the scene working to secure the area and mitigate the risk.
At around 11:30 a.m., officials announced that the shelter-in-place order had been lifted as the leak was contained and the area was deemed safe for residents to resume normal activities.
Authorities did not report any injuries or significant damage related to the leak. The cause of the incident remains under investigation, but early reports indicated that the gas line was struck by construction equipment during the roadwork.
Crews will continue to monitor the situation as they wrap up their response efforts, but for now, residents are no longer under any advisory.
