OTWELL, Ind. – A community fundraiser was held Saturday to support the Algiers Church in Pike County, which sustained significant damage from the EF-2 tornadoes that struck the area on March 15th. The devastating storm caused extensive damage to the roof and exterior of the historic church building.
The fundraiser took place in the church parking lot from 10 AM to 2 PM, where attendees gathered to enjoy hot dogs, baked goods, and a variety of other food items. The event aimed to raise much-needed funds for the church’s rebuilding efforts, with all proceeds going toward the restoration of the church’s facilities.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came out to support us today,” said a church representative. “The damage has been overwhelming, but the outpouring of support from the community has been heartwarming. Every donation helps bring us closer to restoring our church and continuing to serve our congregation.”
While repairs are underway, church services will continue in the fellowship hall, which was completed just a few months ago. The hall provides a temporary space for worship and gatherings while the main building is being restored.
The Algiers Church, a historic landmark in the region, has been a cornerstone of the local community for many years. The damage caused by the tornado is a significant setback, but with the help of local supporters, the church is hopeful it will be able to reopen its doors soon.
As the repair process continues, the church extends its heartfelt thanks to all those who have donated and volunteered their time to help. Further fundraising efforts are expected in the coming weeks, and the church invites the community to stay engaged and continue offering support.
