FORT WAYNE, Ind.— Florida-based L3Harris Technologies Inc, which operates a plant in Fort Wayne, has been awarded a contract through the Missile Defense Agency. The more than $120 million contract involves work on the Missile Defense Agency’s Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor program.
L3Harris was one of four companies bidding on the work to provide the program with an on-orbit prototype demonstration, ending with a launch and testing of early orbiting.
All the work will be done in Fort Wayne and is expected to be complete by July 14, 2023. The Missile Defense Agency says fiscal 2020 research, development, test and evaluation funds of $25 million will be paid at the time of the award, with the funds expiring at end of fiscal 2021.
The Missile Defense Agency at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado is the contracting activity.
