POSEY COUNTY, Ind. — A former employee of Posey County Solid Waste has been arrested on charges of stealing more than $25,000 in county funds.
Jennifer Tinsley, 44, was taken into custody following an investigation conducted by the Indiana State Police. According to the Posey County Prosecutor’s Office, Tinsley allegedly forged vendor and payroll checks, which she then cashed or deposited into her own accounts.
The investigation revealed that between April 2023 and February 2024, Tinsley unlawfully received $21,274.52 in unauthorized vendor checks and an additional $4,550.50 in fraudulent payroll checks, bringing the total amount stolen to $25,852.02.
Tinsley reportedly admitted to the crime during a police interview, confessing to forging the checks and writing them to herself.
As a result of the alleged theft, Tinsley is facing multiple felony charges. If convicted, she could face more than two years in prison and fines up to $10,000.
Authorities have emphasized that the case highlights the importance of internal financial controls and vigilance within government offices to prevent such misconduct. The investigation is ongoing, and additional details may emerge as the legal proceedings unfold.
