Evansville, Ind. — A new resource for women and children in need has officially opened its doors in Evansville. The Susan H. Snyder Center for Women and Children, a long-awaited project by the Evansville Rescue Mission, is now providing a safe space and a holistic support system for those facing homelessness.
The center, which can accommodate up to 125 women and children, aims to go beyond just providing shelter. Its mission is to offer a comprehensive approach to rebuilding lives, with an array of services and resources designed to empower its residents. Attendees of the grand opening ceremony had the chance to tour the facility and see firsthand the various amenities available, including a daycare, hair salon, teaching kitchen, and technology lab.
Tracy Gorman, President of the Evansville Rescue Mission, spoke during the ceremony and explained the center’s purpose. “We’re going to have women and kids who come from vulnerable situations, whether it’s an abandoned house, a car, or worse,” Gorman said. “They’re going to come here, and in this space, they will find security, love, help, and healing.”
The center’s services go beyond emergency shelter. It offers case management, programming, and other essential support services, all aimed at providing long-term solutions to homelessness. The goal is to help women and children regain stability and independence.
Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry, who delivered a keynote address at the event, emphasized the importance of the new facility in addressing homelessness in the community. “This is going to fill a gap in our resources, and I think it’s an important step forward in how we respond to those experiencing homelessness in Evansville,” Mayor Terry said.
The opening of the Susan H. Snyder Center represents a significant commitment by the Evansville Rescue Mission and the community to help those in need. The facility’s dedication to providing not only shelter but also the tools for personal growth and empowerment is expected to make a lasting impact on the lives of its residents.
With the center now operational, the Evansville Rescue Mission looks forward to welcoming women and children into a space where they can find safety, support, and the resources necessary to rebuild their lives.
