EVANSVILLE, Ind. — An Evansville woman is now facing an arrest warrant on charges of animal cruelty after authorities discovered that her dog had been severely neglected. According to police reports, the incident began in November when Shawnte Hobby, a resident of a rental house on North Second Avenue, was found to have left her dog in distress.
Animal Control Officers responded to reports of a loose dog in the area, but upon arriving at the home, they made a chilling discovery. The dog was found without access to food or water, and its bone structure was visibly noticeable, leading officers to believe it had not been fed for several days. A veterinarian later confirmed the dog had suffered from starvation.
This incident marks the second time Hobby has been investigated for animal neglect. Earlier in the year, authorities responded to a similar situation when the dog was found without shelter while Hobby was out of town. The pet was left alone without proper care, raising concerns about the woman’s ability to provide for her animal’s well-being.
Hobby was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, but according to court records, she failed to attend the hearing. As a result, a warrant has been issued for her arrest, and once taken into custody, she will be required to post a $250 bond.
The case has raised alarm among local animal advocates, who stress the importance of holding pet owners accountable for providing adequate care. The Evansville community has responded with concern, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent further cases of animal cruelty.
Authorities continue to investigate the situation, and animal welfare groups are watching closely to ensure the dog receives proper care moving forward.
