Evansville, Ind. — A 31-year-old Evansville woman was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after a traffic stop revealed signs of impairment and the presence of methamphetamines in her system. Katie Carpenter is facing multiple charges following the incident.
According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), a deputy observed Carpenter run a red light at the intersection of Green River Road, narrowly avoiding a collision. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and, upon speaking with Carpenter, noted signs of impairment.
After failing field sobriety tests, Carpenter underwent an evaluation and an oral swab, which indicated the presence of narcotic-opiates, amphetamines, and methamphetamines in her system. Although Carpenter initially refused a blood test, authorities obtained a search warrant, and a blood draw was conducted at a local hospital to confirm the drug use.
In addition to the impairment signs, deputies discovered a baggie of methamphetamine in Carpenter’s possession during the investigation.
Carpenter has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI), drug possession, and disregarding a traffic signal. The incident underscores the dangers of impaired driving and the efforts of law enforcement to prevent accidents and ensure road safety.
