EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A 26-year-old woman was arrested Monday morning after crashing her vehicle, allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. According to Evansville Police, the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Washington and Vann Avenues.
Police say Alexis Morris was behind the wheel of a car that struck a pole before T-boning another vehicle. Witnesses reported seeing Morris attempting to leave the scene after the crash. Upon arrival, officers discovered that Morris had significant damage to her vehicle.
Morris reportedly admitted to throwing alcohol bottles from her car, claiming they were empty and from the previous day. Despite her explanation, police say she failed field sobriety tests and later registered a blood alcohol content (BAC) of .182, well above the legal limit of .08.
According to authorities, Morris told officers she had just dropped off her toddler at daycare before the crash occurred. She also admitted to hitting the pole and continuing to drive before colliding with the other vehicle.
Morris now faces multiple charges, including driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, driving with a suspended license, and operating a vehicle without proof of insurance.
The crash remains under investigation, and police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
