EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Evansville Wartime Museum has announced an exciting collaboration with Evansville Regional Airport for the return of the 5K on the Runway. This unique event gives participants the rare opportunity to experience the museum’s airstrip from the ground, rather than from the sky.
The event, scheduled for [insert date], will feature several activities for attendees of all ages. In addition to the 5K run/walk, there will be a Kids Dash, a one-mile walk, and a variety of community programs. Participants can also enjoy photo opportunities with a P-47 plane and a military tank, adding to the event’s historical charm.
Organizers have stated that proceeds from the race will benefit the P-47 Foundation, which supports the museum’s mission to preserve aviation history, and also aid in keeping the Hoosier Spirit II, a historical aircraft, in Evansville.
The event offers a variety of race options, ensuring there’s something for everyone. The Kids Dash will kick off at 8:30 a.m., followed by the one-mile walk at 9:05 a.m., and the 5K run/walk at 9 a.m. For aviation enthusiasts, the local Chapter 21 of the Experimental Aircraft Association will sponsor Young Eagles Flights, providing free plane rides for children ages 8-17 after the race, weather and space permitting.
With the combination of outdoor physical activity and immersive aviation history, the 5K on the Runway promises to be a memorable event for participants and families alike.
